label New Yorkais Red Menace. L’original laisse
apparaître une tribal Tech des plus puissantes
(127,5) avec une basse bien ronde et des effets clubs
imparables. Ce titre est une pure menace pour le
dancefloor! En A2, le mix des Ciudad Feliz se veut
encore plus tribal et funky. En B, JonH et Raskal du
label Red Menace reliftent le titre en broken House
(129,5) surpuissante. Très bon maxi !

Batofar is what you’d expect to hear at
a huge party of well-mannered crazy souls. Something
out of a Chemical Brothers video but with soul and
meaning to it which may have been injected by Ciudad
Feliz. The weird mind inducing synth stabs whirl about
a fat heavy kick creating an illusion for the ‘rock’
esque wailing guitars. The intense drum track
‘Roberto Plays’ eases up but still stirs the
senses with floaty pads and a quick bouncy strut in
your step when your grooving on the dance floor. On
each side as well are quick samples that work well for
DJ tools from each track here. Watch for the next release
to be on Red Menace titled "America's under attack"!

Lucas Konk West - Batofar EP (KW2 Records) - Cat
No: KW2001. Out Now. Lucas launched his KW2 label with
an excellent three tracker from Ciudad Feliz,
and he follows it up with two slices of tech edged solid
House grooves. "Batofar" sees punchy beats,
a perturbing synth and scared sirens hold back, while
an exhibitionary electric guitar shows its skills atop.
"Roberto Plays" is an entrancing synth addled
ride, with pummelling percussion, swooping wind FX and
powerful stabs.

After the great Cosmopolita EP we have received
another promo record from KW Records, well to be exact
it is a KW2 Production. Let me explain, KW2 is a child
label of KW Records dedicated to “stronger”
house music. Lucas “Konk West” is the founder
of KW and KW2 Records and who else can represent the
route which will be taken with those two labels in the
future better than him self. After his productions on
Stickman, Four01, Solid etc he is back with Batofar
EP a dangerous vinyl full of electronic sounds and DJ
tools. Batofar is the title of the first track, an exceptional
electronic funky house tune. David Duriez said
that “Batofar is an U.F.O.” and I can just
agree with him. It takes you high in the electronic
heaven just to bring you back to earth. On side
A you will also find two DJ tools, to be precise two
heavily filtered voices (A2 and A3) which can be
used to make you followers scream… or just
as a good sample to start you set with. On side B there
is “Roberto plays” a hard house track for
the party DJs which ads a bit of flavor to this EP,
so it can be used in many different music situations
and by many DJs. The last peace of music on the EP is
another DJ tool, this time a collection of beats, snares,
hats and effects which is basically a song… well
almost. To sum up I would like to say that this EP is
a must for serious house DJs and KW Records is going
in the right direction, so keep an eye on them and
“compre musica Argentina”.

Starting off with a tribal house groove, the first
track on this ep moves into an electronic filtered jam
that would be perfect for prime-time main-floor big
clubbin' style. A melody that is reminicent of older
Underworld stuff. Not bad. Flip for a hard-hitting grungy
floor banger with synths that sound like an Italian
techno producer but a kick and a bassline that would,
again, be at home on a big system freakin' the crowd
like mad. Slight progressive feel that works for this
cut.

REVIEW - Cocobanana na naananana! - December
2002
Cocobanana es un nombre nuevo dentro de la escena internacional
y es nada más y nada menos que el interesantísimo
proyecto formado por Fernando de Ciudad Feliz (aka Peligroso
Bikini), Lucas Konk West, dj Stofkry y Charlie O' (más
conocidos como Les Diamantaires) y Etienne de Crécy.
Conociendo la trayectoria de los miembros de este
súper combo el éxito está asegurado,
al menos eso deben haber pensado en el reconocido sello
Solid que editó a través de Poumtchak
el primer experimento de Cocobanana. El lado A de este
disco presenta "Wandinimah" un funky house
con vocals reggae y un bajo en la tradición de
Ciudad Feliz, que encuentra su espíritu en el
funk de los 70's pero actitud parisina '02.
En el lado B, "International Dub Injection"
muestra ese ragga house que se ha apoderado de las pistas
de todo el mundo y tiene su traducción masiva
en grupos como Groove Armada y Basement Jaxx, pero con
acento francés. A pocos días de su edición,
ya se ha transformado en un favorito de djs como el
italiano Claudio Cocoluto, entre otros. Roll it &

Otra novedad exclusiva que llega desde tierras galas
es Batofar EP, primer lanzamiento de KW2 Records, el
sub sello de Konk West especialiazado en "techno,
techouse y dancefloor sound". Aunque este disco
suena más cercano al house con típico
sabor francés con mucho groove, una pátina
tech, sintetizadores alocados y destino de top. Lucas
además de productor es dj y eso se nota, buen
conocedor del trabajo en la cabina en este maxi, que
ya agotó su primer tirada, incluyó además
de Batofar y Roberto Plays dos pistas con loops.
Justamente Roberto Plays es el track con el que logró
colarse en los rankings de toda Europa y en el bag de
djs de todo el mundo, como John Acquaviva. Sin dudas
el sello creado por el argentino en Francia despierta
todas las expectativas para sus próximos lanzamientos.

Après ses productions sur les labels
Stickman, Four01, Solid... Konk West est de retour
avec ce sublime Ep. Sur la Face A : Le titre Batofar,
assez calme et doux dans la construction sur de
longs samples de guitares et bruits éléctro,
vraiment transportant! Mais la ou je voudrais
apporter votre attention c'est sur le magnifique
titre en Face B : Roberto Plays qui est une pure
merveille House tekhouse accompagné sur
ses grosses contrebasses et sa petite ligne de percu
de fond trop tranquille ! Je vous le conseille vraiment
c'est un pur bonheur ! Prochainement dans ma playlist.

Disc One touches upon the sounds which DJ DAN
has always incorporated into his sets and what lead
to the inception of what is known as the signature
West Coast house sound, which he was a part of in
founding, while part of San Francisco’s Funky
Tekno Tribe DJ collective in the early 90s. These
are straight-up funk-a-fied, disco-laden, chunky beat
ass-shakin’ grooves. There are some which have
a slight dark feel to them, such as Jay-J and Chris
Lum, “Freaks Like Us,” with a deep moody
bass line and monstrous “you can’t freak
like us, nobody freak like us” vocal snippet.
Many of the tracks on this disc are unreleased thus
far, but will be released towards the end of this
year on DJ DAN’s own label, In Stereo Recordings.
This includes the disco-funk organ swirling sampled
track “Drama” by the Banji Boys, in which
DAN throws in a sample of a “car horn driving
by” over the beats, best described as metal clanking
sounds similar to a “train riding over a track.”
Other future releases include John H and Rascal, “Afro’s
Revenge” and Full Tilt, “High Drama”
both putting forth a repetitive funky looping of the
organ samples with beats full of hand-claps and punchy
bass line kicks, destined to earn title of “dancefloor”
stompers. Konk West “Portobello Swing”
is a top-notch energetic inclusion with its stuttering
organ riffs, filters and chopped up vocal snippets
reminiscent of those heard in Wildchild “Renegade
Master.” DJ DAN rounds out this disc with
three tracks by French producer, Laurent Wolf who
you could easily mistake as being from the West Coast
by the sound of his creations. Surprisingly, Laurent
hails from France, which goes to show how the West
Coast house style has had an impact internationally.
Laurent’s “Hear A Friend” is a standout
with Plastikman “Spastic” rolling drums
thrown in, alongside sounds reminiscent of DJ Sneak
and Todd Terry productions. If you liked the beats
of DAN’s widely acclaimed productions “That
Zipper Track” and Electroliners “Loose Caboose,”
then you’ll really enjoy the sounds of Disc One.

as Los Angeles' top techno DJ in the early 90's, DJ
Dan went on to reinvented new sounds that went from
breakbeat to hard funky techno. He has released numerous
highly celebrated singles and popular CD's throughout
his career. 'Needle Damage' and 'Put That Record Back
On' are among his most popular singles, hammered by
guys like Carl Cox and Danny Howells, to name but
a few. Music nowadays is hard to categorize than it's
ever been and so is Dan's style. He spins his relentless,
pumping house at his recidencies at Centro-Fly in
NYC and Buzz in DC. Latest news is that DJ Dan is
preparing a new mix CD at this moment. Lucas Konk
West's 'Portobello's Swing' ( Mattlock and Roo
re-edit mix ) is one of the tracks you'll find on
his new album. Besides that, Dan has also a few Area2
festival dates to be done in Seattle, Chicago, L.A

hot versions of And Now which is a pumping tribal house
track with lots of percussion over a solid house

This forth release for Mattlok and crew at Four 01
has proved to be a lucrative adventure into the Canadian
house market. On board for this single is Lucas KW.
Emerging here with his straight up hard pounding
tribal beats and almost tech-house atmosphere on And
Now…. The second cut slips into some more funky
heavy syncopated shuffling rhythms, which transform
the track from uplifting to down right slamming party
tune. The flipside features Andrew ‘Roo’ Greville
in an amazing remix of the title track. The hypnotic
waves of synth lines form a filtered funk swirl and
create a buzz during the break to get your ass where
it belongs. On the dance floor! Mattlok puts on the
final touches by making a relentless repetitive beat
and tribal drums meshing with deep eerie breathes in
a solid and well-produced mix.

cemu divit, kdyz Konk West dobyl koncem lonskeho roku
francouzsky label s ponekud kurecim nazvem le Chic
records se svym EP The Kuala Lumpur. A o co vlastne
jde? O ctyri skladby hodne podobneho razeni s trosku
agresivnim az vybojnym obsahem. Hned v A1 s nazvem KL
Is Hollywood to Konk vzal pekne od podlahy. Na house
pomerne rychle tempo a hutne beaty, doplnene snad jeste
hutnejsi, basou pekne slapou od zacatku do konce. K
tomu vsemu do smycky chyceny zensky vokal a scratche
v kratkych najezdech. To vse dava dohromady pekne tanecni
kousek. A2 pojmenovana trefne Kosmos 1999 zni opravdu
trosku jako z jineho sveta. Nekolik filtry vylepsenych
elektrickych kytar hraje po celou dobu, ale jemne, jen
tak do pohody. Opravdu vydareny deep house. V B1 alias
Julian's Bar si Konk zatleska a pronese kratky pripitek
ve spanelstine a hned nas zavali zaplavou filtru, ktere
se hrnou vys a vys, ale jinak to neni nic moc. Simply
Hardhouse cili B2 uz vlastne vse prozrazuje svym nazvem.
Hned od zacatku jde o pekne ostrou skoro az palivou
skladbu s misty zdvojenymi beaty, ktere jen pridavaji
na rychlosti. Zbyvajicim korenim jsou jak jinak filtry
a spetka delay. Chutna to opravdu dobre, ostatne jako
cela deska.
